Jason Nugget Cooper

At Shadow Boxer we have an international network of inspired and inspiring fitness experts behind us. Each month, we profile another of our contributors to share the wisdom of their hard-earned fitness, motivation and life views.

This month we profile Jason NUGGET Cooper.  Jason has trained at Deception bay Boxing Club under the watchful eye of Damian Smith since 2002.  Before stepping up to professional boxing Jason had competed in over 40 amateur fights in QLD amateur boxing and Global and League, being multi champion at both levels.  Jason NUGGET Cooper made his professional debut on the under card of The Australian Fight Series At Fortitude Stadium Brisbane with a TKO victory in the 4th round over Dangerous David Smith @ Bantam Weight.  In his 3rd fight Jason picked up the QLD Feather Weight Title with a 5th round KO victory over Mathew Seden.

Jason's next fight is against Roberto Lerio for the vacant Australian Bantam Weight Title on 14th April @ Norths Leagues and Services Club Kallangur.

Below is an insight into what it takes for Jason to compete in professional boxing:

What is your absolute fitness golden rule?

Train 100% to make sure I’m 100% when its fight night (no excuses).

What made you decide that fitness and health will be your career?

Well its not yet as I still have to work and train, however one day I would love to become a full time professional boxer.  That will be living the dream!

Which workout do you find you use most often?

Being a boxer I do a lot of different workouts to ensure I train all the aspects of my fitness.  My regular training includes roadwork running, weights, bag work, the Shadow Boxer, skipping, sparring and battle ropes.  They all play an important role in keeping me in the shape I need to be in for boxing.

What do you wear when you’re working out?

I am lucky to receive some great free workout clothes from gym and other sponsors so that is what I generally wear.

Where is your absolute favourite place to workout?

The Deception Bay Boxing Club which has been my gym for 10 years now. It has everything I need for boxing and I love it.

What is your greatest achievement?

So far the Professional QLD Feather Weight title but on 14th April I  fight for the Australian Bantam Weight tile and hopefully when you read this I will be Australian Champion.

What have you learnt about staying motivated?

That I have the will to win and be the best I can.

Who are your heroes and why?

My trainer and manager Damian Smith, without him I would not be where I am today.  He believes in me 100%.

Any fitness goals you’re still trying to achieve?

World Title.

For you, what’s the key to a healthy, happy life?

Being fit and healthy are a priority in my life but I make sure I include time away from boxing doing the other things I love like fishing, boating and camping.  Having a good mix is what keeps me happy.
